Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Risk Assessments

COSHH risk assessments and advice are undertaken by staff with the BOHS certificate of operational competence (COC COSHH). Where a large number of hazardous materials are handled we can carry out hazard or control banding to reduce the number of COSHH risk assessments, making it easier for training of staff. We can also assist in Design of LEV systems, personal exposure measurement, identification of appropriate technical controls and PPE/RPE as well as Face Fit Testing of RPE and COSHH training.

DSEAR Risk Assessments

The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) require employers to control the risks from fire and explosions. We carry out risk assessments for Explosive Atmospheres due to:-

  • explosive dusts e.g. grain, flour, wood or polymer dust
  • flammable liquids/vapour e.g. spray painting
  • flammable gasses e.g. LPG, Hydrogen from battery charging areas

Where necessary, we can also prepare P&ID’s and carry out Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP’s – a structured, systematic, team based risk assessment used to identify the risks of potentially hazardous process operations and assess the reliability of controls).
